The Amityville Horror by Jay Anson.

"Truly terrifying simply for the fact that it was based on actual events. Whether they happened or not is left to be decided but it definitely made for an entertaining, suspenseful, unsettling read." 3 Stars Pros: Compulsively readable because you're just not sure what's going to happen next/The fact that this house actually exists and the DeFeo murders is an actual case makes it all the more terrifying. Cons: All of the exclamation points. I understand they were used to hammer points home but God in Heaven, it seemed like every sentence ended with one. After awhile it made everything seem corny and contrite. Full Review Though the writing style left something to be desired, this book wasn't written to entertain. I think it was more or less written to educate and to terrify people and it did its job well. I read this book in one day. It was that engrossing. I think the sheer fact that this house actually exists and that the DeFeo murders were a thing is what mak

Feed (Newsflesh Book 1) by Mira Grant

"Good guy team of bloggers fight to tell the truth, no matter what, while following the campaign of a would be Presidential hopeful. Though there were definitely surprising moments by the end of the book I was just ready for it to be done." 2 Stars Pros: Though it was Zombies, something that has been covered over and over and over again, it put an interesting spin on the virus and what caused it and it had enough plot twists to keep me interested and reading.  Cons : Grant goes into great detail about a lot of the online blogging/server jargon and I just zoned out/Georgia's constant emphasis on her retinal condition gets old/Georgia always being on the ball and knowing everything gets old fast (stereotypical, know it all, never wrong, female journalist stereotype IE Lois Lane).  Full Review:  Your run of the mill Zombie/Dystopian novel as told by three young adult bloggers who are chosen to blaze the campaign trail for a new Presidential hopeful.  The virus that causes th

Morning Star (Red Rising Saga #3) by Pierce Brown

"When one door closes, another opens. Morning Star  is the perfect end of one chapter and the beginning of another." 5 Star.s  Pros:  All the characters are all flawed but relatable, written so well that you can't help but be fascinated by them even when they're cruel and evil/The Jackal is truly psychotic/Ragnars' growth as a character is genuine and heartbreaking/Sevro in general.   Cons : It's amusing how even during crises, seconds left to live, characters can manage these long, drawn out, heartfelt confessions/There are a LOT of characters to keep track of and a lot of moving parts to connect together.  Full Review:  Darrow is in the dark, surrounded by whispers, a prisoner in mind and body. The horrifying twist at the ending of Golden Son has brought him here and he has no way to escape. At least, that's what he thinks. But as always with this series, there are twists, turns and surprises around every corner. The Jackal had Darrow prisoner for a year

Strange Weather by Joe Hill

"A collection of four short novels that all have a very different "feel" to them, so none are alike. Each had its good points and bad but overall it made for an interesting read." 3 Stars.  Pros:  Each story is very different and keeps your curiosity piqued/Each story has its own "feel" much like the Seasons.  Cons :  Basically all of the characters in Loaded  left me feeling disgusted by the human race/The ending of Rain was a little saccharine and the character of Honeysuckle had moments of intense, detective like scrutiny that seemed out of character and very convenient when situations had to be explained in a no-nonsense, detail oriented way.  Full Review:  A collection of four short novels, Snapshot, Loaded, Aloft and Rain.  Each story had its own unique feel and narrative and each were entertaining in their own way.  Snapshot  and Aloft  were much more surreal and based in fantasy while Loaded and Rain were disturbingly realistic.  Snapshot  - An uns
