The Nemesis (The Diabolic #3) by S.J. Kincaid

"A satisfying conclusion to a moderately entertaining series. The Diabolic series by Kincaid is in no way deep or life shattering but it's a pretty good read overall. The characters are complex and though at times it all seems rushed/a little too convenient, in the end, I enjoyed the series as a whole. "

Pros: Though it was rather saccharine, I liked the ending.

Cons: It's been awhile since I read "The Empress" so a lot of the references were lost on me/Though I understood where Tyrus was going with his plan, it seemed a little extreme/The dialogue can be painful, "my love", "stars curse me", just very...space age melodramatic.

Nemesis has tried, as best she can, to move on, past what happened with Tyrus and the Empire. But unfortunately, she cannot stay hidden forever. Anguish, her fellow Diabolic, is dying and once her true identity is broadcast across the Empire, Tyrus comes for her.

It's common knowledge that Tyrus has gone completely insane. And Nemesis has lost all hope for him. He now deems himself a Divine Emperor, his powers bestowed by the universe itself. When Nemesis goes to meet him, he offers her a ship in retribution for what he did to her. She takes it. But when she goes to announce herself to the devoted followers that have come to worship Tyrus, it all goes horribly wrong. She saves a man who's about to literally sacrifice himself to Tyrus and thus, it's known that Nemesis, in fact, lives.

It goes from bad to worse and as Anguish and Nemesis leave, they come up with a plan. It's risky, the odds are highly stacked against them, but Nemesis is determined to figure out what Tyrus is up to, why he's done what he's done. There has a to be a reason for it and she'll find out what it is or die trying.

It's been a very long time since I read "The Empress", so many references of events that ooccured in that book were wholly lost on me. I didn't remember them happening and frankly, I wasn't so invested as to look it up. And though at the end you think there's no possible way anything good can come from any of this, well, Kincaid handles the ending well.

Though it wasn't perfect and had its flaws (the dialogue, Nemesis' inability to be defeated by anything ever at any time, she and Neveni's love/hate relationship) for the most part this was a satisfying conclusion to an interesting series. It wasn't life shatteringly amazing but the series didn't make me feel like I'd just wasted hours of my life to see how it all worked out.

Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie

"The classic tale of Peter Pan, the boy who never grows up and his adventures with his Lost Boys and the Darling Children, Wendy, John and Michael. At times fun and whimsical and other times surprisingly dark, it was an interesting read as an adult." 3 Stars Pros: There is something appealing about flying away to a mysterious island where you can play all day and never have to grow up. The thrall of Neverland is a constant for this dreamer.
