"A powerful and engrossing read that follows the lives of three women, all descendants of the Weyward women, a line of Witches. They must do what they can to not only keep their secret safe but also grow and change around the boundaries and limitations that Society has placed upon them. It took a bit to get into the story but once I did, I was hooked. A great read."
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Pros: The storyline for each protagonist was different but engrossing, especially considering the times in which they happened/This was an empowering read as far as strong female characters go.
Cons: The book was a little slow to find its footing but once it did, I was hooked.
Full Review:
The Weyward women have always been special. Though unfortunately, special isn't always the best thing, especially for young women who live in a patriarchal society. This is a story told from three the points of view of three different women, all descendants of the Weyward line.
There's Altha, a young woman who's been put on trial for Witchcraft and Murder in the 1600s. Violet, a young woman who's been hidden away at her Father's estate and has no memory of who her mother was. And Kate, who's done everything she can to escape an abusive relationship and flees to the house that her great Aunt Violet left to her in her Will, Weyward Cottage at Crows Beck.
Each character slowly learns truths about themselves even as they struggle with the boundaries and limitations placed on them by society. Each character, in their own way, grows and changes, accepting themselves and their power.
This was an engaging, tense and well thought-out and researched read. All the storylines offered their own tensions and struggles and all the women, Altha, Violet and Kate, had their strengths and flaws, as any good character does. The overall message of empowerment, accepting and embracing your wild side and being true to yourself was uplifting and encouraging.
