"New alliances, new enemies, the whole galaxy on edge, it's hard to know who you can trust. But with the undying hope and optimism of the heroes of the New Republic, Luke, Leia, Han, Lando, Chewie and of course, the Droids, everything comes together and is tied up in a neat bow at the end."
3 Stars
Pros: Though it's contrite, the ending did bring the trilogy to a satisfying close but also left room for more.
Cons: Again, Zahn's use of the word growl, to describe how someone speaks. It was just overdone and frankly annoying/A lot of the tactical terms, vectors and other such lingo used during aerial dogfights were confusing/C'Boath and all the posturing/monologuing at the end.

***Spoiler Alert***
Leia gives birth to twins, Jacen and Jaina but shortly after, a commando team sent by Thrawn infiltrates the Imperial Palace on Coruscant and tries to abduct them. Conveniently, Mara Jade, who was injured and has been convalescing on Coruscant, senses the attack and comes to the aide of Han and Leia. And though the other High Councilors are suspicious, Leis is sure that Mara helped them of her own free will, and so she trusts her.
And the big surprise at the end of Dark Force Rising, that Thrawn has found a way to create Clones and is churning them out by the thousands, is only making the Empires numbers swell and their attacks more deadly. Our heroic group knows that the only way to stop Thrawn and another Clone Wars is to go to the source. It's convenient that Mara Jade happens to know where the cloning cylinders are. So, they set course to the mysterious planet of Wayland, the very same planet that insane Jedi Master C'Boath has decided to return to, to await the arrival of his new Jedi.
It all comes to a dramatic, emotional and action packed head but, nothing can defeat the New Republic. And the ending leaves off with just enough room for a bit more, which is the lead into Zahn's "Hand of Thrawn" duology, If I read those books again, I'll get them from the library because though it was fun to go down memory lane, reading this series this time around, it just didn't quite grab me the way it once did.
