⭐⭐⭐⭐
Pros: Darrow's guilt/You want him to find peace but Brown makes it seem impossible, that's part of the pull, of course, the tragic hero.
Cons: Lots of people, sometimes tough to know if I should make a note to remember them/I wanted to see more of the brotherhood of the first book.

We’re 10 years into the War for the Solar Republic. And no one is being spared. It’s. Slaughter and Darrow feels it all.
He just disobeyed a Republic vote, denying him an Iron Rain but he let one fall anyway. They win back the planet Mercury from the Ash Lord and manage to push him back to Venus. Darrow knows all he needs is one more final push and he can end this war. He can live out the rest of his days with his friends and family and know peace.
He wants to connect more with his son, Pax, who's cold, overly-polite and just distant. Meanwhile, Sevro is Father of the year to his four daughters while the fifth is well on its way, Victra hugely pregnant. Darrow cherishes the peace and togetherness he feels at dinner and knows in his bones that it'll be short lived. He's right as a meeting of the Senate is called the next day and all must attend.
He's called to the witness stand and says his peace, only, the head of the Vox Populi, Dancer, his old Lieutenant and now representative of the Red Bloc in the Republic, pulls out his trump card. He calls forth Julia Au Bellona, Cassius' mother, who explains that the Ash Lord sent she and other Golds as Emissaries for Peace only Darrow refused the Armistice.
This really doesn't go over well at all in the Senate and things escalate really, rather quickly. People are killed, it's all really rather unfortunate but Darrow and Sevro escape and go off to fight this war. Meanwhile Mustang is stuck at home with the children, having to reign in the Politicos as the Senate gather but a threat grows under her very nose and everyone is none the wiser.
Brown's fantastic at pacing. Once one chapter ends, the next one picks up on a story-line that piques your interest all over again. It was definitely hard to put down. I'm hoping Dark Age will be the same.
