⭐⭐⭐
Pros: Sevro and Victra/Ephraim and Volga/Atlantia is truly terrifying and I'm both frightened and interested to see what she'll get up to in the next book.
Cons: Too many people, Legionnaires, Praetors, Olympic Knights, I couldn't keep what was what straight/There were so many characters that when people died, I couldn't really remember who they were, so, I just wasn't all that affected by their death//Lysander, Mustang and Paxs' super brain powers got old fast.
Full Review:***Disclaimer - If you have not read Red Rising/Golden Son/Morning Star or Iron Gold by Pierce Brown, please do so and then feel free to read this post at your leisure. That way, you'll know what I'm talking about 🙌.***
The war between the Republic and the remaining fleet of the Society still rages. Darrow returns to Mercury to try and rescue the fleet that the Ash Armada (let by Atlantia, the last remaining daughter of the Ash Lord) has trapped. When Lysander Au Lune, heir of Silenius, shows up, swearing himself as an ally, well, she decides to let him prove his worth. She launches an Iron Rain on Mercury to try and finish off what's left of the Republics forces.
While Darrow and Lysander fight to survive in all out warfare, Mustang is also fighting the tried and true war of Politics. She's determined to help Darrow, no matter what. Of course, nothing actually goes to plan and catastrophe erupts. She finds herself facing a new, unnatural and truly unnerving foe. And while all this is happening, the Obsidians, led by Sefi, are hearing rumors of a new dark threat emerging from the deepest parts of space.
Everything comes to a head, of course, but to be perfectly honest, I think there was too much happening in this book. I was interested in all the storylines and wanted to know what happened to the characters but at the same time, there was just so much going on and so many people to remember that it all kind of mixed in my brain like a melted watercolor.
Though I'm eager to see how Brown brings this series to an end, I just hope that Lightbringer is a little easier to follow with not so many people to remember.
