"With the title of this book I thought we'd be following Darrow in his final quest for peace. Instead we watch as Lysander plots and schemes and Darrow does everything he can to stop him. It's basically a 700+ page book of a Clash of the Titans. Friendship, loyalty, family, love, life, death, Brown covers it all in this book and then some. Though parts were heavily weighed down by military strategics, I'm still enamored enough to see what Red God has in store."

Pros: Lyria/Cassius friendship/Sevro/Darrow's brotherhood/Diomedes at the end and his way of trying to find peace.
Cons: Darrow/Lysander's epic speeches/gift for monologuing got really old after 2 + pages/There were a lot of plots within plots and I was very confused at parts as to the true idenitity of some characters. It was all rather overwhelming. There were simply far too many cooks in the kitchen.
Full Review: ***Disclaimer - If you have not read Red Rising/Golden Son/Morning Star/Iron Gold or Dark Age by Pierce Brown, please do so and then feel free to read this post at your leisure. That way, you'll know what I'm talking about 🙌.***
Having escaped certain death on Mercury, Darrow has spent the last eight months hiding away, eagerly awaiting for his return to Mars, to Virginia and Pax, back to his home. When other survivors of Mercury return and give Darrow the rundown of everything that's happened while he's been incognito he's understandably devastated. It also lights a fire under him to go off on a rescue mission of his own.
Lysander, completelyy distrustful of Atlantia and her cronies and also being kept in the dark about certain, important, politiacl decisions, decides it's time to act. He attends a Summit of the Rim Lords (the remainder of the Raa family) and the Twenty Two (basically, various Gold families that are still loyal to the Society) and makes a rousing speech. He manages to solidfy his alliance with the Raa, yet again and vows to help end this war, once and for all. Atlantia is quite displeased but she lets him go off and play war hero.
Unfortunately Mustang/Victra/Kavax and all the others loyal to the Republic are his first target.
And of course, there's the Obsidian Warlord, Volsung Fa, who's decimated the Obsidian kingdom on Mars and is terrorizing the Jovian Systeml. All the while grooming his Grand daughter, Volga to be the next Obsidian leader.
Needless to say, there's lots of fighting, lots of politics and honestly, a lot of the descriptions really dragged parts of the book down. Though, amidst the heavy military jargon, there were moments of genuine friendship/brotherhood and love. Though not my favorite book in the series and I'm really rather disappointed with the end, I'm commited enough to see it through. We'll see what Red God has to offer.
