The Walking Dead (Volume 19) March to War by Robert Kirkman.

"Plans are in motion against the Saviors but when Rick lets his emotions take over and nearly ruins everything, Negan decides that two can play at that game. It is officially war."

4 Stars.

Pros:  Ezekiel is a good character. He understands what people need in order to come together and is willing to act the part, but deep down, he's human and just as scared as the rest.

Cons: Again, Rick's arrogance, his hairline trigger temper is a good way of getting people killed.

Full Review:

Jesus takes people from the Hilltop and brings them to the Kingdom, where Rick has brought people from Alexandria. They assess what they have and decide that it's time to start planning this war with Negan. During a quiet moment alone, Ezekiel let's the king act drop and opens up to Michonne. He was a zookeeper and when everything went to Hell, Shiva, his tiger, was alone in her cage, starving. So he took her with him and she helped him survive and get to where he is now. He acts the way he does because it gives people someone to trust, someone to look up to. A leader instills confidence and he knew that's what people needed during everything.

Negan ends up coming to Alexandria early to pick up his supplies. Spencer, the son of Douglas and Regina, both death because of Rick, decides to try and talk to Negan. He says that Ricks insane, that he's psychotic and that even if Rick works with Negan, he'll eventually rebel because his ego won't let him be subservient. Negan pretends to listen but then guts Spencer where he stands. When Rick returns to Alexandria to find the scene of carnage, he flies into a rage.

He sends Andrea up to the bell tower, saying that Negan has only about eight men with him, they have to take this as their chance and make it count. Rick's arrogance is quickly proven his downfall, once more though, as Negan proves that he has more than eight men with him. He has at least eighteen, with ten men hiding in the trees, all with guns. Rick's prior assumptions that Negan didn't have any guns was wrong. Negan explains that he keeps the guns for the really dangerous things, not the zombies, but people.

Carl, from the wall, takes a pot shot at Negan which ends up hitting Lucille. Negan is devastated and decides that Rick has to be punished, both for his actions and for injuring Lucille. Meanwhile in the bell tower, Andrea isn't alone. One of Negan's men comes up and attacks her. While kneeling, awaiting his fate, wondering who Negan is going to kill with Lucille, Rick sees someone fall from the bell tower. He is horrified, thinking it's Andrea. Things seem hopeless until Jesus, who had been scouting the position of Negan's outposts, shows up just in the nick of time. He attacks Negan and his men and Negan eventually has to tuck tail and run with the arrival of Ezekiel and Shiva.

Andrea is of course alive, beaten up, but alive. Everyone is patched up and contrary to what everyone is saying, Rick doesn't think he has blown their only advantage. He thinks that Negan will think they're scared and wouldn't be brazen enough to attack. So he orders all the communities, Alexandria, Hilltop and the Kingdom, to gather their fighters and prepare for an attack in three days time.

Back at the Sanctuary, Negan decides the very same thing. It's time the Saviors go to war.

Fantastic Voyage by Isaac Asimov

"When a scientist, Benes, who has integral and world changing information attempts to defect and join our Side, he's injured. A blood  clot forms in his brain and the only way to save his life is to miniaturize the crew of the Proteus and inject them into Benes' body, so they can break up the blood clot from the inside. Of course, one thing after another goes wrong and every chapter is a new catastrophe but it was definitely a fantastic voyage.   2 Stars Pros:  Grant is one dry character but he's a welcome bit of amusement in an otherwise serious and scientific novel.  Cons:  Grant is also SUCH a man that he spends most of the mission staring at saving the one woman board, Cora./Definitely ripe with anatomical lessons and what part of the body they were in. Since I've never been great at anatomy, a lot of it was lost on me and became burdensome near the end.  Full Review: As in all things, there is a good side and a bad side. This book is very vague as...

Animal Farm by George Orwell

"A blithe and scathing commentary on equality, power, corruption and how everyone is created equal, but...some are more equal than others. Orwell hit the nail right on the head with this novel and it's no wonder it's a staple for most high school curriculums. " 3 Stars.  Pros:  Benjamin the Donkey is the smartest animal on the farm and it would have done all the others a world of good if they had listened to him in the first place.  Cons:  The fact that societies like this actually do exist is nauseating and terrible. It's not a con, per se, it's just a gut wrenching fact.  Full Review:  When the overworked and mistreated Animals on Manor Farm decide to rise up and overthrow their cruel master, they're successful. They rebel and now find themselves with an entire Farm to run. They rename it Animal Farm and are intent on creating a paradise, where work and play are equal, where productivity is key but relaxation is a must and all the lives of all the animal...

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie.

"Arnold Spirit, Jr, or "Junior" as he's known on the Rez, does something no Spokane Indian has ever done. He enrolls in Reardon High School and begins the long and often painful process off navigating not only high school and adolescence but also being an outsider. Alexie handles it all with grace, humor and honesty. This was a great read. I would recommend it to anyone."  5 Stars Pros: Alexie handles the ups and downs of not only adolescence, but tragedy and loss in a stark, honest but gut wrenchingly relatable way.  Cons:  Some of Junior's all-consuming guilt, though understandable was a little repetitive but it's all part of being a teenager.  Full Review:  It all starts when Arnold Spirit Jr, or Junior, throws a textbook across the classroom. When he opened the book he saw his mother's name, her maiden name and it enrages him. He's furious that the reservation is so poor that they're learning from thirty-year old textbooks. He doesn't...
