5 Stars
Pros: Rick hasn't completely lost his humanity, though he's coming very close, teetering on a very thin precipice.
Cons: Again, what horrible situation will the group find themselves dealing with this time. I mean, it makes the story progress, but it gets a bit old/Who will be the big baddie this week?
Full Review:
The group is on the road in their continued quest to Washington D.C. In the morning, Andrea goes to look for the twins, Billy and Ben, and she finds Ben standing over the mutilated body of his brother, holding a bloody knife. And he says ever so calmly, "It's ok, I didn't hurt his brain. He'll come back."
The boy is obviously disturbed. They put him in the van and discuss what should be "done" with him and Andrea storms off in a rage, obviously infuriated that they would think of killing a child in cold blood. And while they're attempting to figure out how to handle this newest problem, a priest, Father Gabriel arrives, asking if they have any food. He admits that he'd been staying in his church, which isn't far but had to leave once he ran out of food. The group is wary, obviously distracted by the circumstances of Ben/Billy. But that night, they let Gabriel stay with them. And the group doesn't have to make the decision about Ben's fate, since Carl takes it upon himself to sneak out of the tent, go into the van and shoot Ben in cold blood.
Dale and Andrea are infuriated but no one will step forth and say that they did it. While they're arguing, a group of roamers come and they deal with it and afterwards they bury both boys and stay there for the day. During the night, Andrea goes into the woods to relieve herself and hears rustling. She knows it's not a zombie because she hears footsteps running away and zombies don't run. She tells the group what she heard but they dismiss it as nothing more than the wind. They're all on edge already. Dale, later, wanders off into the woods, for unknown reasons and is hit from behind and dragged away. It turns out that Andrea did hear someone in the woods and now they've kidnapped Dale.
The group wakes up in the morning and go searching for Dale and while they search, Gabriel leads them to his church. Andrea's beside herself with worry for Dale and Gabriel later admits that he believes that the group was sent to him by God to punish him for his sins.. It turns out that when the zombies first began to rise, instead of allowing the members of his congregation into the Church, he locked the doors and listened as they gathered outside and were eventually overrun and killed by zombies.
The group is obviously sickened at his selfishness but during his confession Andrea runs back into the church and says that she heard someone in the woods again. They dismiss her, yet again, but they try to stay aware.
Dale awakens to find himself surrounded by about five people and a man who calls himself Christopher. And after monologuing for a bit, he says that it's nothing personal but that Dale does taste delicious. It turns out that they've cut off Dale's other leg and are eating it. They're cannibals. Dale starts to cry and Christopher tells him that it's really nothing personal, he shouldn't be upset. But Dale's tears quickly turn to hysterical laughter as Dale admits that he went off into the woods by himself to die. And he rolls up his sleeve to show that he'd been bitten. Christopher and his group are horrified, afraid that since they've eaten tainted meat ,they'll turn into zombies. But what's done is done.
They drop Dale back off at the church and the group brings him in. While dragging him inside, Glen is shot in the leg and Abraham and Rick figure out that the group isn't trying to kill them. That they're trying to keep them scared. And so, they decide that it's time to do the exact opposite of what the group would thing. They'll go to them. And they do. They find Christopher and his group and they cut them apart, slowly, for what they did to Dale.
Once the deed is done, they return to the church and Dale is fading quickly now. It's not long before night falls and Andrea finishes him off with a gunshot to the head. The next day they bury him and as Rick stands at the grave, thinking, he hears a noise behind him. He thinks it's Abraham, and so he starts explaining that he can't get the images of what they did to Christopher and his group out of his head. He keeps seeing it. How they cut them apart, took their time. When there's no answer, he turns around only to realize that he's been telling all of this to Carl, his 8 year old son. And with tears streaming down his cheeks, Carl quietly admits that he was the one who killed Ben.
