"The group hits the road in search of a more secure location and everywhere they find has something to hide. Also more people are added to the group, thus adding to the dynamic."
3 Stars.
Pros: People are starting to "couple up", Carol and Tyreese, Maggie and Glenn etc though of course things never stay stable.
Cons: Lori as a character is just obnoxious, she flies off the handle at the smallest provocation and her tantrums get old real fast/Everyone in the group has some serious anger issues.
Full Review:
Picking up right where Volume 1 left off, Shane is buried and we find that he and Lori did in fact sleep together when Rick was in the coma. She confesses to Rick later that she's pregnant. And Dale, who's always the first to offer up his opinion to others, explains to Rick that the baby might not be his. Rick is well aware of that fact and is simply trying to not think about it, lest it drive him crazy.
They pack everything up into the RV and set off on the road in search of a more fortified place. While on the road they run into Tyreese and his teenage daughter Julie and her boyfriend Chris. They take them in and Tyreese, a strong, ex Pro-Football player is a good addition to the team. When they come to a gated community called Wilshire Estates, they think they've found the jackpot. But it is, of course, too good to be true. There are Zombies everywhere and everyone escapes except for Donna, Allen's wife and the mother of the twin boys.
They hit the road again and one day, while hunting, Rick, Tyreese and Carl think they hear something. And then a gun goes off. Carl is hit and a man comes out of the woods, horrified at what he's done. Rick, understandably, flips his lid until Tyreese assures him that Carl is still alive. Rick takes Carl to the farm where the man, Otis, lives and Carl is saved by the owner of the Farm, Hershel.
The rest follow in the RV and as Carl heals up, they make themselves at home. Hershel seems a good, honest, hard working man. He lives there with his four daughters and two sons and their neighbors, Otis and his girlfriend Patricia. The group thinks, again, they've found a safe place. But it turns out that Hershel is hiding a dark secret.
His barn is full of zombies. He's keeping them there because he's in complete denial of the fact that the hosts are dead. His son was bitten and he can't bring himself to accept the fact that he's dead. When he goes to lure a Zombie into the barn, the other Zombies surround him and all Hell breaks loose. Hershel loses most of his family, except for Maggie and Rick, who was horrified at the very idea of what Hershel was doing, manages to not say "I told you so."
Angry at himself, Hershel takes it out on Rick and the group and forces them to leave, at gunpoint. Glenn decides to stay behind, since he and Maggie have started sleeping together and he thinks he's found something worth living for. The rest hit the road once more and go off in search of a safe place. And the think they've found it when they catch sight of a prison just down the way.
